Hello everyone,

Apologies for posting this later than I normally do. This month we are
promoting small tasks related to Wiki Loves Monuments and the Memory of the
World Challenge. You can find further details below or visit the Mini Wiki
Blog
<https://wikimedia.org.uk/2025/02/time-contribute-open-knowledge-quick/> for
more ideas on how you can contribute to open knowledge.

Wiki Loves Monuments is an annual international photo competition, taking
place in the month of September in which participants photograph and upload
images of historic monuments to be in with the chance of winning prizes.
These images are then available for free use on Wikipedia pages and beyond.
More details about this year’s annual competition can be found at Wiki
Loves Monuments UK <https://www.wikilovesmonuments.org.uk/>

You can use the interactive Wiki Loves Monuments map
<https://app.wikilovesmonuments.it/en/mappa?geo_context=11> to find
historic buildings to photograph to take part in the competition and add
images to Wikimedia Commons. You can also add images of scheduled monuments
– but these won’t show on the map this year, so you’ll need to add them via
the upload wizard – more details can be found here.

…and there are also other mini-tasks for Wiki Loves Monuments!

Browse the images submitted for each nation below and see whether any of
them may be suitable to illustrate Wikipedia articles. Images make articles
more engaging and help to visually illustrate the topic!

   - England

   - Wales

   - Scotland

   - Northern Ireland

<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Images_from_Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2025_in_Northern_Ireland>

Here are some pointers to help you add your image to an article:

   - Is there a Wikipedia article on the building /monument / region you
have photographed where it can be added?
      - Does Wikipedia have good quality images? It’s fine to replace an
image if you are replacing it with a higher quality image.
      - Include a caption to describe what’s in the image.

*Adding Structured Data*

You can also add structured data to the image, which helps to improve data
quality and usability. Click on the structured data item tab under the
image and select edit, or start typing in the search box to get started.
For each depicted item in the image, find the appropriate item from
Wikidata and select it.
*Memory of the World Challenge*

The Memory of the World Wiki Challenge
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Memory_of_the_World_challenge_2025> is
also running throughout this month. Wikipedia and Wikidata volunteers (in
any language) can earn points by improving the representation of the UNESCO
Memory of the World International Register to be in with the chance to win
some beautiful books as prizes.
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Memory_of_the_World_challenge_2025/Prizes>

The International Register includes some of the best known documents –
Magna Carta, Anne Frank’s Diary, The Rig Veda – and many less-well-known
but still important documents, archives and libraries from around the world.

As well as writing articles (if you have some more time!), there are other
tasks that are short and simple, which help to improve the diversity and
representation of these documents on Wikimedia projects.

You can add a label to any of these Wikidata items <https://w.wiki/EsRS> in
a new language.

*Or you can add *a link to an inscription in the Memory of the World
International Register (en <https://www.unesco.org/en/memory-world/grid>, fr
<https://www.unesco.org/fr/memory-world/grid>, es
<https://www.unesco.org/es/memory-world/grid>) from a relevant Wikipedia
article.

Without your input, Wikimedia projects wouldn’t exist, thank you! To help
us keep track of how Mini Wiki is being used, please use the #wmuk in your
edit summary, where possible. We’d love to hear from you on your experience
of using Mini Wiki. If you have an idea for a task that you would like the
UK community’s help with that is quick and simple, then email
[email protected].
