This is because these languages prefer nouns ending with short 'a' vowel
to long vowel 'aa'. It is very rare to see a name ending with 'kaa' or
'yaa' or 'paa' etc in Malayalam.
But if you see Tamil, they prefer nouns with long a vowel examples:
ராதிகா (Radhikaa), ராதா(raadhaa), இந்தியா(Indiaa).

Hindi and some other Indo Aryan languages delete the schwa at the end of
the noun, and if we write विकीपीडिय it is read as 'wikipediy' , the 'ə'
pronunciation is deleted at the end. But I think it is not there in
Sanskrit.
