Gender was used as feature example similar to extracting
user-preferred language.

Sure, for Commons user-preferred language is much more critical since
it'll exclude admins guess game when using templates on particular
user talk page.

I think categories translation and their usage in search will greatly
improve value of Commons for non-English speakers.
