Erwin, I'm happy to continue working with you on this if you have more ideas. Please don't just give up because the process isn't perfect. It's our responsibility together as a community to continue improving it. I'm sorry if you haven't had a great experience so far with this. I am personally very pleased that someone (like you) is being persistent enough to get this matter some attention. MediaWiki's diff view has been a blight for ages, and I think we are getting really close to something solid.
I took your input, as well as that of others, and have submitted r113071 which I feel is the best version yet.
