This is true, and it was a confounding factor in the analysis. So our initial results were bupkes. Aaron and I decided to repeat the experiment, so we re-ran it for a ten-day period between January 6th and January 16th. The results are more modest but still significant: module storage reduces load time overall by about 100ms.
