I uninstalled to be sure and all bookmarks appear to be intact. 
I guess that means the uninstaller doesn't do a good job,  but 
works for this. 

I think the last time I upgraded, I just installed it and had 
two versions and had to go back and uninstall both and reinstall 
the new one.

Mozilla needs to clarify the update procedure.
