Not true. That all depends on what film scanner you get.  A good one will far 
outstrip the cost of a flatbed scanner and will have better colour 
reproduction and management and more importantly, have add options to scan 
lots of slides as opposed to say 2 or 4 at a time.

I have 2 personally, a Nikon LS-30 and a Tamarack Artiscan 2400FS. The Nikon 
is several orders of magnitude better in features, quality etc.  However my 
Nikon is going into the shop as it's autofocus seems to be broken :-( so I am 
back to the Tamarack unit.

Pretty much anything current that has 2400dpi optical resolution or better. 
Most of the older film scanners did 2400 dpi like 6 years ago, hence their 
expense, not sure what current models do.
