The Lite-On DVD burner which comes bundled with Nero software is an OEM specific Software/hardware version. That OEM version of Nero is exclusively designed to work and install only with that specific model Lite-On DVD drive. It can't be installed on any other machine that does not have that specific OEM model Lite-On DVD burner installed. That's becuase the OEM version of Nero comes with the mint factory OEM dvd drivers database that the non-OEM version may lack at the time of its release.
To use the newer versions of Nero you must upgrade directly from the OEM version of Nero as the non-OEM shrink wraped version in some cases may not work with your OEM DVD burner. You can try to install the non-OEM version as long as you have the latest Lite-On DVD drivers for your particular model. Go to your Lite-On manufacturer's website to download the new drivers for your Lite-On DVD and install those first. Then install the non-OEM version of Nero. You can do this by downloading patches direct from the nero web site. Be carefull to select the right version as there are the Ultra Edition, Burning CD-ROM versions. http://ww2.nero.com/us/Downloads.html When I got my Sony DRU-710A 16X Dual Layer DVD burner it too came bundled with an Sony OEM version of Nero plus all the drivers and utilities. I just upgraded Nero CD-ROM by having to download the patches directly from the nero website.
