I would defrag the drive and then clone it to a CD or something 
similar.  Then either format it fat 32 or use the XP CD to delete the 
old data and format NTFS and install.  This will give you a clean 
install.

Or after you have cloned it.  Use XP to format it and then copy the 
existing installation across.  You will need to do a boot fix 
afterwards.
