I also use SageTV and do exactly this using Nero 6.6. It does an adequate
job of producing a DVD that will play on a set top DVD. Using the Make DVD
option and then Nero Recode, I can fit 3 1 hour editted television shows on
a single sided DVD with about 92-95% compression. To me, it looks far
superior to a VHS tape in 2 hour mode. There are other encoders that may do
a better job, but they also take a LOT longer. I can encode a SageTV
produced/Nero 6.6 created 3 hour DVD in about 30 minutes. Editting takes
time and the burning/recode/compression takes time, but the actual mpeg to
DVD coding is about 30 minutes.

I have not done this but I THINK Nero will support this type of activity.

I read somewhere that the latest Nero supports Lightscribe and it is
substantiated at the Nero website (http://ww2.nero.com/us/index.html). No
idea how well it works as I have no direct experience.

By itself, Nero will not rip a commercial DVD.

Nero can be had for $69 or less with rebates. Check the Sunday inserts and
normal internet sites.

Be prepared to spend lots of time. There is a learning curve, even with easy
to use Nero. Might want to invest in some DVD RWs to experiment on to fine
tune your methods.

Good Luck and have fun.
