Thanks to those of you who responded to my inquiry. BTW, of course I meant USB drive not USC. I must be looking forward to college football more than I had realized.
Well, I don't know where my drive went but it's back. I checked through the administrative tools and it didn't turn up. I then did something I hadn't thought to do before, I turned the power off for the HD, turned it back on, and rebooted. Voil�. There it was. I done a couple of cold system reboots but didn't turn off the power to the HD itself. Go figure. All's well that ends well, I guess.
