Probably......

You can buy an US made machine from a Russian in Moscow at a cost of $700
US and have it shipped almost anywhere.

The same way you swipe a card. Like copying a floppy disc as it's exactly
the same except it's in a straight line.

Not quite but if you know how the information is placed on the stripe then
it can be duplicated. But then if you think about it all CC must have the
same data presented in identical manner otherwise the readers can't read
them just as all CDs have identical "white book" standards.

Once you have a number and how it is presented it's as easy as copying CDs.

Over here in the UK and Euro land we are initiating the "Chip & PIN" where
nobody actually signs a ticket and every card purchase in person has to be
accompanied with a Personal Identification Number typed into a terminal
that you place the card in. No swipe. The card's "CHIP" (similar to cell
phone SIM) has the info and you secretly input your PIN. Nobody touch your
card except you.

However, phone and internet purchases are usually Ok as the vendor only has
your card number and not your PIN which you NEVER tell anyone. His card
company will either verify or deny the sale on number + address + name (+
credit) so still relatively safe as they won't know your PIN so can't clone
the card.
