How can I find firmware version?

I have a microadvantage dvd+/- drive #4dvdrw-13 and I wanted to upgrade its 
firmware. On their website it refers to checking what version of firmware 
is installed currently. How can I tell. If I upgrade the firmware do I also 
have to look for upgrades to the driver?
Any recommendations will be appreciated.
