I do have an external case for the drive. When I used Ghost 9 to copy the old to the new, I kept getting messages that the destination drive was running a program. There are no apps at all on that drive.
A question about the suggestion below. Do restore the MBR on the old drive or the new one? When?

Another alternative would be beside a desktop PC and if he had an external HD cady with USB 2.0 he can Xcopy .* /r/i/c/h/k/e/y the contents of his old HD unit in his laptop to the external D USB 2.0 cady unit. Then FDISK C: /MBR to rstore the master boot recod.
