The problem with Norton is that LiveUpdate doesn't work unless you are logged on as an admin user and logging on as an admin user on a regular basis is the last thing most users should do.
Symantec sees absolutely nothing wrong with this, which makes me something seriously wrong with Symantec

The LiveUpdate runs through a Task Scheduler entry doesn't it? You can just set that task to run as an Admin and that should solve the problem.
