I bought a Linksys 802.11g wireless router, and I'm trying to get it set
up. My configuration is that I want the "home LAN" [that the Linksys
will take care of] to use my computer and share its internet connection.
My computer connects to the Linksys via a 100 meg ethernet. I've been
pawing around the Linksys support site, but I can't find info about this
problem... [I tried their configuration utility and when it starts it
says "you're connecting via a modem... this utility doesn't support
modems"... and so we dialup folk continue to lose...:o(]

What I've done: I've configured the wireless LAN with a WEP and confirmed
that my laptop and my desktop can successfully talk to the Linksys
[and indeed, I can connect to the linksys's management stuff just fine
from either system]. The linksys is at 192.168.1.1. I gave my
computer's LAN interface the static IP address of 192.169.1.100 and told
the Linksys to start allocation IP addrs at 101. This seems to be
working fine. I did the "internet connection sharing" stuff and that
seems to be set up [my RAS connection shows up as "shared"] but I'm not
exactly sure. Netstat on my computer looks like:

I'm not sure where the "224.0.0.0" routing via the Linksys come from.
68.18.112.11 is my current dialup IP addr and the rest seems obvious
enough. so that's probably OK...

Now I get into Linksys-land:

Since I don't have a WAN connection, I have the Linksys set up in
"Router" mode and I set up one "advanced route", although I'm not sure
how to do it or make it work: I want to tell the linksys that its default
route is via 192.168.1.100 but I don't see how to do that. the
"destination lan IP" is 0.0.0.0 and the mask is 255.0.0.0 [you can't set
the mask to 0.0.0.0, the default gateway is my IP and the interface is
"LAN and wireless". I can see in its routing table that that's what I
have. that's probably my problem [not being about to set the 'default'
route for the linksys], but I haven't a clue how to do that.

On my laptop, the settings are all vanilla: it connects and it is told
that 192.168.1.1 is its IP addr for everything [DNS, gateway, etc]. I
think that'd be fine *IF* I could get the Linksys to route to my PC, but
I don't seem to be able to.

Anyone know how to get the LInksys set up properly for my use?

Thanks! /b\
