My Solution:
1. Tell daughter PC is OFF between x:xx and z:zz
2. Give daughter alarm clock.
3. Show daughter belt.
4. Check at various times between x:x1 and z:zy
5. If PC=ON between x:x1 and z:zy, apply belt to daughters posterior.
6. If 5.=2Severe 4U; Take daughter's PC, cell phone, house phone and ground
her butt for a month.
7. If 6.=2Severe 4U, U are a wuss.
Seriously, the job of a parent is to train a kid to be responsible for their
actions. This learning of responsibility should carry over to their
adulthood. If not they are gonna be a PITA to a lot of people. Be firm and
don't go to elaborate lengths to do something simple. Kids may not tell you
this but they love to know their limits, so make limits and be firm about
them. Give an inch and you lose. Listen, I got 3 - 27, 25 and 21. I'm not
their pal, buddy chum or peer, I'm their father. They all have thanked me
for giving them an "out" to use when their friends put peer pressure on them
to disregard our limits. My son has told me he has left parties when the
beer was passed around, because "his Dad would kill him." I wouldn't have,
but he didn't know it at the time. Some of those kids are in jail as we
speak. I know I don't have all the answers and no one does, just my
approach. It worked and I thank God it did.

Some home routers have parental controls that allow you to specify the
hours that each computer on the network has Internet access.
Seems a lot more graceful than forcing a shutdown with unsaved data.
