Yes, I know about this and I have used it, but I do not want to have to
do this each time I go into explorer. I want it to be that way all the
time. I cannot get it to stay that way.

Once you get Explorer to look the way you want, try holding 
down the shift key while you exit Explorer via the Files/Close 
menu item.
