I wonder why the studios and record labels haven't gone after the telephone companies and cable system. Without them, the downloading would not be possible.
Oh my, people, what is wrong with you. If a person or company sets up an ability to break the law, that person or company is breaking the law as well. If I show you a way to sneak into a bank at night, I am abetting a federal felony and am just as guilty as the one who breaks in.
The telephone and cable companies did not set up their operations to do anything illegal -- although it is against federal law to use the telephone to break the law, The telephone company is not liable. All that was settled in the Beta case several years ago
If I pirated your software and mass produced it and sold it, wouldn't you want some government agency to stop me??? Would I be trampling on your freedoms. I don't want you to travel at 90mph down the interstate if I am on the road too. Is that trampling on your freedoms?
Those who pirate music and provide it to others, are just as guilty as those of the Supreme Court case, but they were not parties to the suit. Next time they may be.
