When everything is working, it's all working fine.
Connections are fast and everything opens as it should. When things aren't
working, connections are slow and nothing will open. But it doesn't time
out the way it would if the server couldn't be reached, and usually I
don't get a "page can't be displayed" message.
Is it possible you are getting an intermittent series of errors (e.g. from a
noisy connection) that is bottling the effective connection speed to an
impossibly slow rate? Checking the connection status should show 0 errors.
