Generally the power connectors give very little trouble. If however
you have got a bad one simply because its a loose fit check that the
pins in the connector have not become damaged and sprained open.
Gentle pressing on the two release tabs will allow you to remove the
wire complete with pin, and squeeze the hollow pin back into shape.
Flex the retaining tabs on the pin, outward very slightly before you
put it back in the plastic bit.
One problem that had me guessing for a moment, was where a pin had
been crimped on to the insulation, and there was no electrical
contact ! That gave a similar effect to the one you describe, an
intermittent power loss
Also look very carefully at the male part, on the drive. I have had
pins that had become unsoldered from the circuit board on the drive.
Particularly on hard disk drives.
