I know that in XP Pro you can set an account lockout for a specified
time period after a specified number of failed login attempts. But
is there any way to do this in XP Home? I've not been able to find
anything on the subject that doesn't pertain to Pro.
My 10 year old nephew made it painfully obvious yesterday how much of
a short coming this is in XP Home with his unimpeded attempts to get
into my daughter's limited account. True, she had a simple password
set, but locking the account out after 3 or 4 failed attempts would
have prevented it. Or at least slowed him down considerably.
My home network is behind a hardware firewall, and I have a strong
password on the Administrator accounts on all of my computers. So
I'm not so much worried about an attack from the outside as I am
worried about her mischievious brothers as they get a little
older. I think having an account lockdown kick in until Dad gets
home would definitely give them pause.
I dread the day when they are able to outsmart me. <LOL> <GROAN>
