I have a HP DVD200i burner that burns at 2x or a bit better. Can I use 8x
disks with thisdrive?
The reason is that the 2.5 disks are $1.50 to $2.00 each, and 8x has been
on sale at $0.30 or less.
When you say 2.5 disks that tells me it's the +R type disk & being that
it's an older model it probably only burns that type of disk which is fine.
I just made another post that shows an 8x disk that can be burned at 16x
but in that same post there was no 1x or 2x. IIRC there was a major dye
change at 4x that has allowed us to get up to these higher speeds but one
thing is for certain I can NOT burn at 1x with the media that I had in the
recorder when I ran my friend's Nero CD-DVD Speed. Now the media I used is
of the -R variety & since I've never used the +R type because they were
always more expensive than the -R I can not say with certainty that the
same is true of the +R disks but I'm reasonably certain that the 4x barrier
is still true. So you may find disks that are rated 1x to 4x would probably
be ok but the disks that are rated 4x to 8x or higher are probably not ok
for that particular burner. If you find that the later is the case then
you may want to upgrade to a faster burner as the money you'll save on
media will more than pay for the drive as they aren't that much money these
days.
If you should happen to verify what I surmise as being correct or not then
would you be so kind as to let us know?
Thanks & Good Luck.
