I look in the tin - Oooh! Worms Lots to play with -----------------------------
Me - I'm trying to hold off getting a new system for another year By that time 64 bit processors motherboards and (reliable and stable) powersupplies will be cheaper ( I hope) sub $100 Motherboards will run PCIEx masters with dual access memory, and an OS that will handle (and use) more than 3Gb memory I'll also be looking for a board that handles at least 2 HDTV channels ( watch one, save the other to disk) a DVD recorder that holds at least 30GB on a platter Firewire or SATA drives of 400GB at the current 250GB price a 23"+ TFT screen that runs 1800 x 1600 (yes 2,880,000 working cells) and costs less than $200 Windows will be a secure OS, and Office will do all my work for me while I watch the movies Meanwhile - If I have to - it's a cheap - off the shelf 2.8GHz system with 160GB drives and only 1GB memory Thought will XP Pro include a free 64bit OS upgrade? or go for 2003 ? Office 2003, or a freebie! Basically - a backup system for when I get the major toy in a year's time When building systems for myself I prefer to spend more on a well, but not excessively featured, and definitely not b-leading edge MB, and a stable and powerful powersupply. I aim for system speed from fast memory and disk throughput, and save that extra cost by going for a lower/mid range speed CPU I also suspect that I'll have to carefully consider the power consumption of the CPU and video driver board. as well as the power available for the USB ports, both individually and collectively I don't want to have to run A/C just for the PC/entertainment centre... I would rather watch Judge Judy than play games, but I may change my mind.
