Correction to last post. You need to place the /PAE at the end of the last line
in your boot.ini file like this:
The modified boot.ini reads;
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect /PAE
A space must be placed before the /PAE
