I was reading about this at http://kennethhunt.com/archives/000640.html, maybe it is of use?
Quote " a.. Anyone with a Windows 2000 CD can boot up a Windows XP box and start the Windows 2000 Recovery Console, a troubleshooting program. a.. Windows XP then allows the visitor to operate as Administrator without a password, even if the Administrator account has a strong password. a.. The visitor can also operate in any of the other user accounts that may be present on the XP machine, even if those accounts have passwords. a.. Unbelievably, the visitor can copy files from the hard disk to a floppy disk or other removable media - something even an Administrator is normally prevented from doing when using the Recovery Console." I didn't think that booting to Safe Mode : allowed anyone to bypass pwds as that would be a major security faux pas. I : can do it with a utility on my XpPe disk but the utility I use only runs : from within Windows so it has to be on a XpPe or BartPe disk as it will not : work from a floppy even tho it's small enough. Many installations use no : Admin pwd which is also a no no but try it anyway leaving the pwd field : blank otherwise you'll have to speak to the IT guys. : : : ----------+---------- : Wayne D.
