Home Service Package has a Download Threshold of 169MB & at that point the
FAP kicks in throttling your download speed back from 500 Kbps to as low as
50Kbps depending on how often you've been FAPped & haven't learned. My
point is that 169meg per hour is slower than 500 Kbps which effectively is
throttling everyone because of a few potentially bad apples. The
Professional Service Package has a Download Threshold of 350MB before one
gets FAPped. You can read more about why they say they have the Fair Access

This is fine if all you want to do is surf & download some security updates
or small patches but if one downloaded Sp2 for Xp which 266meg then they
would get FAPped unless you stifle yourself. If you want to download a
Knoppix CD for emergency use it'll take you a while & don't even think
about downloading the Knoppix DVD.
The latency is about the same as a Dialup connection & if you're bidding on
something on eBay at the last second or making stock trades or playing an
online action game then the latency factor can be a killer & since you've
had DSL you will notice the added latency. You may actually want to try
dialup to see if you can live with that only because of the price
difference. I know right now I couldn't afford DirecWay service at all & am
so thankful that we just got DSL in the area as the cost per KBS is cheaper
than cable. That's the only reason I switched away from cable because I did
love the speed I had.
