Seagate -- 5 year warranty is a plus 10000rpm -- expensive and limited to Western Digital Raptors
I have purchased them all (in PATA format, at least) in the past few years and have only had one hiccup with a Western Digital 120 GB PATA that "crashed" (BSOD) but was resurrected with their diagnostic tools (I assume a bad sector in a critical area). I have two 37 GB 10000 rpm Raptors that are nice, but cost $115 each when I purchased about 2 years ago. I recently purchased two Hitachi Deskstar T7K250 250GB Serial ATA II 7200RPM Hard Drive w/8MB Buffer for about the same price as the Raptors. These are SATA II drives and in an informal speed test, found them slightly faster than the Raptors. I purchased a Deskstar many years ago when 14.5 GB was large. They were manufactured by IBM and it is still in use. So the question may boil down to (as most do), what are your expectations and needs. Fast or big (or a compromise for both)?
