Well....talk about coincidence.....I was in the same bushes today and found a fairly new Toshiba with exactly the same problem(s) and more. I cannot boot to safe mode(locks up checking services), can't even get to setup. Have tried F1,F2, F10, Del, and with the FN key but no joy. Will not boot to CD and has no FDD.

It was a hand-me-down from another employee who passworded the BIOS.

This thing just sits there and generates ads. Looks like Excel in page tile mode. Can't install most anti spyware, just locks up. Will not go to web.

Just want to reformat if I can figure a way to get into the BIOS and force a CD boot. Any ideas would be great.

Jeff

My friend has a 3 month old toshiba laptop running windows xp home sp2.

What do you do beat the bushes for these friends? ;-)

He runs Norton anti virus and it finds usually 6 or more infections. He runs spyguard or something like it , and it finds 2 or 3. One of which is "abetterinternet". It appears to be adware according to what I have read. He also has a "drsnsrch hijacker " apparently running in memory, or at least it is attempting to run. My question is how can I help him to permanently remove these infections, and tell him how to avoid them in the future.
He is running both Nortons firewall and windows firewall.

Have them boot up into Safe Mode & run the AV & spyware apps again. When was the last time they updated the AV?
