It would probably fix the immediately evident problem, but - surely you really need to know what the problem is, and why the space shown is 'missing' 20Gb
If you re-set the space but leave the problem actively hiding space then you'll be doing the restore every couple? of weeks Only reason I can think of for space not to show in Treesize is either: Your logged on ID does not have permission to view the files, or directories in which the files, allocated that space are recorded. - A painful job - to check the entire directory structure to ensure your ID is not prohibited from seeing any directories and/or files. Or the space is allocated to OS temporary filespace (no file entry in any directory) or partially re-allocated to free-space - - Have you run scandisk/chkdsk recently Also you shouldn't need to reformat before a partition image restore unless you want to be sure the disk surface is good Possible desperate consideration - Performance monitor - anything such as 'Ghost' doing lots of IO - especially O - I remember Ghost 9 reading 600Mb periodically to check for changes since I took a backup of my 8Gb boot partition And surely to check for changes it must have recorded the initial status somewhere - how much partition space have you 'backed up using Ghost? JimB ---------------------------------- Tree Size pro tells me that C: usage is only 18.6Gb but the system is telling me its usage is 38.6Gb so what is taking the extra 20Gb? Would a C: format and restore image/ Ghost backup do the trick? Hugh ---------------- Sir Hugh of Bognor Intelligence is not knowing the answer but knowing where and how to find it!
