You're using SCSI - not the SATA-2 spec'd Hitachi drives @300Mb/sec
in a RAID 10 array (hot plug as well)
( mount them in a separate case with it's own power supply and cooling )

2 video cards - won't you want a pair of nice 40 " displays - with at least
2048 x 1536 physical resolution (3.2Mpixel)

and wot about a UPS

and it's not $1000 to play video games -

twin video boards and screens $4000
Raid (10) array - $600
MOB and dual 64 bit processors $1500
Memory $500
Speakers (sorry Sound System)
Aircon ( cooling) for the playroom $800
Soundproofing and locks to keep the kids out
(physically and audibly) $500

say $10,000 plus change

Subject: New System

> Folks, this new system stuff is getting tiresome! Too many decisions and
none of them for what I really want. Like the time when I bought my car --
> I don't really like it -- I wish I hadda.... Same with the bed I just
bought.

> So I reluctantly settled on an Antec P180 case -- Very nice looking but I
have to give up a 3.5 bay for the 12cm fans. And I have to learn to live
with the door.
>
> Ahh but the PSU is easy isn't it -- an Antec NeoPower 480W -- No It ain't
easy. I looked at the specs of some of the stuff Most don't say, but
some video cards say things like use a >400W PSU. Now if I lower myself to
two video cards in PCIe16 slots and decide to waste my time playing games,
does that mean i need that 850W PSU I asked about previously????

toward Gigabyte. That would mean the

that? I do. i want more PCI slots -- modem, SCSI, my current video card.
Ahh yes and another slot --- just in case.

> Ok lets turn for example to the Gigabyte K8N Ultra-9-SLI with (3)PCI,
(2)PCIe1, but only (1) PCIe16, Do I really need 2 PCIe16s and SLI?
>
> Ohh my look at this -- 22 min has passed and now there is the ASUS A8N0SLI
with (3) PCI, (2) PCIe1, and (2) PCIe16 slots.

I won't say it out loud.
>
> Besides what is going to happen in the next 22min?
>
> Then I start to think seriously. Why on Earth do I need SLI? and two
PCIeX16 slots? To make use of these i would need $1000 in video cards.
> No? Who in his right mind would pay $1000 to play video games? Then
there is the question of the CPU -- another $1000
>
> Besides I see no sign of PCIeX1 cards of any kind Do really need such
slots "just in case"? Ditto PCIeX16
