And you weren't going to tell me? I'm sure glad I've procrastinated --
is Microsoft "home" on the weekend? ;-)
Oh yes! I called them last night, Labor Day. Have the model number of the
computer handy. Know where the computer was purchased. They ask me that
every time. I am having to call Microsoft for format jobs on name brand
computers where no hardware has been changed. If you will check, you will
find most times they do not install Windows with the same Product Key that
is on the COA. Once I finish I can assure the world that the same Product
Key that is on the COA was used during the install. I truly believe this
flagrant error (using a different Product Key than the one on the COA) kicks
off the need to call Microsoft.
I would try the trick mentioned in another post to avoid authentication when
I feel their Windows is legal but it may cause my customer problems in the
future. So I call Microsoft if necessary.
My point here (other than answering your question about calling Microsoft
24/7) is to let all know that it is ridiculous to have to call home when no
hardware has been changed. All it would take is the computer manufacturers
to use the same Product Key that is on the COA to install Windows. It is
almost like they want you to encounter problems.
