The upgrade route seems to be more trouble than it's worth, at least for me. I spent the whole night trying to upgrade and the install kept hanging at the "updating programs and settings" step. The installer wasn't very informative as to what was going on. I finally gave up and did a clean install just to see if the 2k CD was bad or I had a hardware problem. The clean install went smoothly and I was able to install my chipset drivers and video driver. I used Ghost to save the install at that point and reload the 98 image so I can try to save my Pegasus, Agent and a few other set-ups before going back to 2k.
It took me weeks to get back to somewhere near what I had when I did the clean install of 98SE. What a pain! Without Ghost I'd be really up the creek! > Mike, > > I used FAT16 for the 95A, FAT32 for the Me - > > Wanted to be able to access the new OS partition from the backup > of the old OS > > Wheee! just look at that yellow stripe > > NTFS - no reason not to use it > No reason to use it unless you need to handle files bigger than > 4GB (DVD ISO's perhaps) > > Don't forget to consider turning off content indexing - its > effectively the same as the old fastfind/findfast. but you get to > it via the partition properties > > I try to limit my partitions to 50GB approx for NTFS and 30 for > FAT32 It makes space usage monitoring/control, backup defrag and > general partition management etc. easier OS partition needs about > 12Gb free space if you are playing with DL DVD's - so make that > partition 20GB + > > JimB > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Mike Miller" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Wednesday, September 21, 2005 9:55 AM > Subject: Re: Win2K over 98SE > > > > Sounds good.
