Whatever you choose

get the salesperson to show you how to take it, and replace memory, hard
drive, battery, comms connection, and DVD drive -
and still have a working system.

That way, not only will you know how to replace these parts, but you will
also see if you can add in an alternate, or second larger drive, better
battery, second memory block and the next generation DVD drive( sky blue
whatever)

And you can also discuss any need to get specially high priced parts from
the manufacturer

You could also consider a second battery and separate charging cradle? -
providing they don't cost almost as much as the basic laptop

Yes - you should be able to get 1Gb Ram for £1K

Subject: Hardware: ISO Quiet cool laptop

My current (substitute desk top) laptop - Acer Aspire 1710smi - is far too
power hungry and prone to overheat as well as weighing a ton.
I need a leaner machine which will run for three hours on battery, have a
decent sized HDD (is 120Gb too much to ask?) and run cool and quiet (
computational speed/graphics not an issue). Inbuilt wireless (g)
connectivity is a must. A Gb of RAM would be nice.
 My budget is <1K UKPounds.
Off the top of your heads do any listers have a particular favourite that
would be a (fuzzy) fit with this profile? Please share your ideas with me.
