OK, is Realtek AC97 driver working now?
If not, get the audio driver working.
We'll go from there.

C: drive was formatted.
Win XP Home Edition was installed.
An attempt to install this driver was made:
  Realtek AC97 audio Driver A3.77
  WDM_A377.exe 17,375 KB
But Win XP gave an alert that it was not compatible and
a warning to stop installation was displayed.
The idea for above Realtek AC97 installation came from
the error message from the
text to speech software called
Read Please
http://readplease.com
Read please 2003 was installed but when running it,
we have this error message:
The Active property must be TRUE before
the Speed method can be called.
Note:
The readplease software was working
before c: drive was formatted.

Suggestions.
What is the corrective action?
So the text to speech software will work.
