Subject: Re: removing nortons??
Been there & done that a couple of times! Has no-one thought of making an
app for automatically deleting stuff (i.e. Norton!) from the registry?
There
must be a better way than typing that mind-numbing "F3-del-enter" sequence
for NIS, LiveUp, Syman & Norton!
The reason I prefer formatting Drive C and reinstalling after you have used
Add/Remove Programs on any number of occasions (it works for some many times
before the mess it leaves is noticeable and for some it does not work the
first time) is you get a thorough job. With using "Find" while editing the
Registry you have to start over with each keyword you can think of. You
never know all the keywords the application has used in writing to the
Registry.
I strongly prefer Add/Remove Programs to a format job, but it does not
always produce the desired results. The Uninstall applications slow down
your installation of applications as they record the installation process do
they can remember what to remove. You often forget to have the Uninstall
application monitor each and every application that you install.
This is why I strongly suggest to my customers to be very careful about what
they install. The old "Try it, you may like it" slogan may work with
products you buy from Sears (you can simply return those if you are not
happy) but it is not quite so simple when you perform a "marriage" between
your Registry and an application. The divorce is often very nasty.
