YAY!  That did it!  I didn't know [obviously :o)] that you could move 
things around with the arrows at that point, but indeed: a pretty-much-
zero-sized window appeared, and once I had it in the middle of the 
desktop I could fix it up.  thanks!!!    /bernie\
