Subject: Re: Windows XP Media Edition OEM

I know if I had spent years & years developing a brand name with a decent enough reputation [whether you like the rep or not] I sure wouldn't want some back wood hick to remove all the branding info that I placed on the machine. Heck, this hick brands the boxes that I sell & I wouldn't like it if you removed all that info. I sure would

I did not come here to argue the legalities etc. of doing clean installs on name brand computers, but to ascertain the feasibility of obtaining a Windows XP Media Center OEM CD.

Some of those who consider my clean installs as wrong have no problems slipstreaming XP with SP2 using media other than what is furnished by Microsoft.

I may be forced to purchase a Windows XP Media Center kit. The only areas that are questionable to me are when there are massive hardware changes. In most clean installs there are no hardware changes, unless I upgrade the RAM. Whatever I do, it will be legal, using the customer's COA (even if I purchase the media from my supplier, ASI), and I already know I will have to call Microsoft during the authentication process, so I will have their approval. I do inform Microsoft that I am doing a clean install on a name brand computer in preference to running its restore process.

So who is my daddy? Is his name Bill?

Chuck
