UltraVNC and TightVNC are both free and open source.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VNC has information on these and other flavors
of VNC. I've only personally used TightVNC (and it's actually been awhile),
but UltraVNC looks promising, with file transfer capabilities and
encryption.

I use [EMAIL PROTECTED] <http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net/> exclusively as it's more secure than Windows Remote Desktop. I even access all the other machines on my LAN with [EMAIL PROTECTED] when I need to run an occasional app but am either too lazy to get out of my chair or don't want to turn on another monitor. My HTPC doesn't have a monitor so I have to install AV updates & the like via [EMAIL PROTECTED] plus it's nice to be able to shutdown the machine remotely.

Just remember if diagnostics or installing a new app remotely if you have to reboot you'll lose the connection but you can have [EMAIL PROTECTED] server load up on startup so you could resume the connection after the reboot.
