From the Brother website:

When I send a fax or make a copy the document is all black. What can I do?
MFC8500 - Sending a black page can be caused by a static electricity build up that causes the scanner to mal-function.To determine the extent of the problem follow the procedure below.

1. Unplug your machine from the electrical outlet, wait 30 seconds and then plug it back in.

2. Test the unit by making a copy of a blank sheet of white paper. To make a copy, place the document face down in the ADF(automatic document feeder) located behind the control panel and press the Copy button located on the right side of the control panel.

3. Try resending again.

Subject: Printer Problem

Hi,

I have a Brother MFC 8500 Multi-Function Laser printer.

I haven't yet used a full cartridge, but was getting big, black
splotchy lines clear across the left side of the paper when I printed
anything.

I got a new toner cartridge thinking that was the problem, but now
the page is totally black..........and gray on the other side. So,
then, not both sides of the paper have toner on them.

I cleaned the wire as recommended, but results were the same.

I sure hate to have to buy a new drum! Those suckers are
expensive.

However, it does sound like that, though, doesn't it?

Thanks,

Jim
