Not white box -- it was a Dell system [and so has the 'restore partition'
and nothing else]. It did boot to XP/Home and I can see that it has
"Intel(R) 82891GB Universal Host Controller". I guess I can/should look
for drivers for it on the internet, burn them to a floppy or CD or
something, then load the drivers onto the XP system...

Turning out to be a real problem -- I've never seen anything as
complicated and confusingly laid out as the Intel site.. what a mess

For example: with much poking around, I found my way to Intel "Embedded
Chipset", # 945G. Farther down, it does say:

Product:
IntelĀ® ICH7R or ICH7 I/O Controller Hub

Product Code:
82801GR5
82801GB

Package:
 652 PBGA
652 PBGA

Features:
Six PCI masters and four or six5 PCI Express* x1 channels
 Serial and Parallel ATA interfaces
 USB 2.0, (eight ports)
IntelĀ® High Definition Audio or AC'97

Sinc "82801GB" is what I have for all the "?"s on my XP setup, I assume
that that's what I want. So I go to their driver-download page
(<http://www.intel.com/design/intarch/software/driver/index.htm#945G>)
and I find 945G drivers for: Win 2K, Windows XP/Embedded, XP Pro 64,
Linux. What I have is vanilla XP/Pro/SP2. Is the "XP/Embedded" the
right thing [if not, am I out of luck -- XP/Pro won't run on this
motherboard??]. There are then SEVEN downloads listed: Graphics Media
accelerator, Integrated LAN, High definition Audio, Matrix Storage
Manager, F6 Driver Disk, Chipset Install Utility.

If anyone can illuminate what's going on with all this [and what I need
to do to get my system up] I'd appreciate it. THANKS!!
