Thanks Bill, and Wayne I'm still trying to persuade the family that It's ridiculously overpriced, and the prices are double what they should be - so there is lots of reason for them not having one @ xmas
If I'm lucky that may avoid the extra stress on the plastic until the January ( or maybe just the after Xmas sales!) Very unlikely for it to avoid that till mid January, let alone mid-2006 And don't forget - for electrical stuff - the exchange rate is £1.40 = $1.00 JimB ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bill Hatcher" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, December 08, 2005 6:44 PM Subject: Re: News Reader I have no idea how long they last, but £4000 certainly seems steep to me. Circuit City currently has the Philips 42" Plasma HDTV (42PF7320A) on sale for $2280 (note that price is in DOLLARS, not pounds). This is also a 42" TV, not 40. They also offer 24 months of interest-free financing on it... They have a variety of sets at this size for slightly more. E.g., Panasonic 42" Plasma HDTV (TH-42PX50U) for $2850 with the same type of financing. Aside from that, 2 or 3 times per month Circuit City runs a deal with 10% off select merchandise over $199 when one links in through MSN. I don't know if these particular items are eligible for that or not. I am aware that the UK may have radically different pricing, but these prices (and sometimes significantly lower ones) are readily available from several vendors here in the US. I figure by mid-2006, 42" HDTV pricing will be well under $2000, and same size EDTV will be under $1K (I have already seen the latter at that price if one can work a "deal." Don't know of any right now.) - Bill Hatcher [EMAIL PROTECTED] - -----Original Message----- From: Windows Home/SOHO [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Slattery, Tim - BLS Sent: Thursday, December 08, 2005 13:18 To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [WINHOME] News Reader > (Who agrees with me that a 40" Plasma HDTV TV is not really > worth £4000; Please somebody support me on this.) That's what, $6,000 - $7,000 or so? No, it's not worth that to me. ISTR reading someplace that plasma sets don't last more than 2 or three years.
