Hi, Bill --
We've done it and done it and done it -- dozens of times. It just doesn't
stick, and the old XP settings are back with every reboot. It did stick
until he put on SP2. ????

I don't know why it won't work for you but doubt it is an SP2 problem.
I have been using SP2 with XP Pro since it became available and I also
prefer the Classic look. I followed the XP Help instructions:
To use the classic Windows look
Open Display in Control Panel.
On the Themes tab, under Theme, click Windows Classic
and have had no problems with it "sticking." FWIW, I just bought a Compaq
(It was cheaper to buy than build comparable!) that came with XP Home SP2
already installed and I immediately changed it to Classic; it also stays
that way. If you want the START Menu to also have the Classic look, it needs
to be set separately (right click taskbar>properties), and I believe if you
want Classic folders that also has to be set separately.
