Just get a hold of "SUN Java Desktop" bootable CD.  Boot from the CD and 
drag n drop the files onto another drive.  No changes to your HDD at 
all.  The only time it will change your HDD is if you want to save your 
Java desktop settings.  It will not save them to an NTFS partition 
anyway !!  Remember that the drive that you save to must not be NTFS.  
Write capability for NTFS disabled in this version.

Knoppix will also do the same job and write to NTFS. Which is why I 
recomend SUN's Linux version.
