Both machines are running XP Home. The original set up was a Gateway with a built in Broadcom wnic using the Windows configuration wizard. The second laptop is an HP using a Netgear PCMCIA wnic and started out using the Netgear software which she has changed to the windows so it looks the same. She still hasn't been able to share files on the ad hoc connection even after using the Windows wizard with a thumbdrive to configure the second laptop.
I'm just curious why the access point connection now needs the SSID broadcast to connect when the laptop already knows the SSID. For some reason it's not checking to see if that network is available and only sees networks that broadcast the SSID. It's not a big deal since not broadcasting the SSID doesn't add that much to security and we just power down the access point when it's not being used anyway. Sorry, I wish I could be more help. > > ----------+---------- > Wayne D.
