Here are the rules.

All versions of Windows XP:
You cannot uninstall IE unless you previously installed IE separately.

XP SP1 or earlier:
You cannot install IE unless you convince XP that IE is not installed.

XP SP2:
You cannot uninstall or install IE separately.

The cliff notes on repairing IE for XP SP2 is "re-install SP2".

My error!

I'm using WinXP-Home SP2.

I can't even find how to "un-install" IE, since the one instance I 
did find won't open.
