Yes - the problem may be that the control information on the partition is
corrupted -
Always run chkdsk before manipulating partitions -
you need to know if there are any problems, and with most partition backup
software - there must be NO anomalies found.

If there are (more than a few) problems, it may be better to use a true
imaging facility before running something that could clear-up problems by
deleting files from the 'file management tables'

But a true image system would copy the entire partition ( or drive) to an
equivalent space.
(ideally a drive - and you would also have to get the alternate tracks
copied)

Anything that compresses the image is not a true image system - because it
would have to read the file management tables/files in order to determine
what sectors etc are not (supposed) to contain data.

Run chkdsk on the drive, you likely have filesystem or worse physical
corruption on the drive.

The best command would be chkdsk /R driveletter:

     /R              Locates bad sectors and recovers readable information
                     (implies /F).


This will take a long time...
