I was wrong.

I had sent a post to the List defending Netflix. I said that I had seen no
evidence that Netflix was deliberately slowing down sending out DVD movies in
the 5+ years I have subscribed. This was and continues to be true for me
(maybe the fact that I live 5 miles from Netflix headquarters makes a
difference). However, CNN yesterday carried a story yesterday where the CEO of
Netflix admitted that it was their policy to slow down sending out DVDs to
"heavy users" (11 or more per month for the 3 out-plan) to reduce the number
of movies the heavy users can get in a month to keep their costs down!!

Here is the CNN link:

Their mailing slow down is understandable...it costs $0.78 for two way postage
on each DVD, but is inconsistent with their earlier "unlimited" statements.
Having lost the lawsuit brought by plaintiffs that claimed a slow down policy,
Netflix now states in the Agreement that a customer must accept as a condition
of signing up for the service that there is the possibility of a throttling
down of the mailings as the number increases. For some reason I still get over
20 a month. Even at 10+/month it is a great deal compared to driving to the
local brick & mortar rental store.
