Hi,
It was the disk, or at least, that what it looks like! I fixed it with my
credit card - bought a 120 GB SATA disk, & am busy installing Win2K + MS
updates, etc. Next is to pull everything off the old Win2K drive, &
low-level format it (bin it?).
Regards,

Hi Mark,
Could be, altho I have already shaken the module, just in case a poor
contact had "grown" since inserting it 3 weeks ago. Maybe I should do it
properly, & pull the module & inspect?
For the rest, the defrag of the Win2K HD went without a hitch, but the
boot/error/dump loop is still there in normal mode.
Tonight, I'll try safe mode + networking, & see if I can get the MS
updates.
If it's still nogo, tomorrow, I'll haul the box down to the shop who sold
it, & discuss.
Regards,
Richard.be

Sounds like a RAM problem. Win2K and Win98 have different places in the
memory to put there stuff, 2K from the bottom up an 98 from the top down.
