A friend just got a new computer and we have everything transferred over except Roxio (was using version 5) for writing to cd-r's. Despite my several attempts to get him to stop using Roxio's direct-cd to use cd-r's as a big floppy disk, he has way over 80 disks and most not closed. The new computer came with Nero. Of course, it doesn't see disks written with direct-cd (and open) as having anything on them.

I did convince him to at least upgrade to current version 8 of Roxio instead of searching for the version 5 disk.

Is there anything besides uninstalling Nero I need to do before installing Roxio? I know I can't leave both on, at least the packet writing software. In spite of him now having a DVD-RW drive, I doubt he will do much with the DVD part and just use it as before. CD-Rs written to with direct-cd.

Would the fact that the new drive is faster and new version of Roxio (jumping from version 5 to version 8) be a problem reading the old cd-r's that aren't closed?
